620. Virtual Jam Session

Cyborg Jeff (Martin) Impulse Tracker II – Cyrix 166 – IT
Track 13, Last Trip on my Ship (1999)
Track 7, Cyborgelis (1998-2018)

A few days later, Virtual Jam Session should have found its place in the Eyes Dreams album, since it was finalized while the album was being rendered.

With Virtual Jam Session, I approached another genre much more jazzy, a tall order. I remember that at the time I was with my friend Vivien at the Liège Jazz Festival and that we used to hang out on Friday evenings at the Piano Bar La Notte in the Carré de Liège. These outings offered me to hear other sounds, another way of approaching music and I liked to see pianists lose their fingers on the keys of their piano.

Chance, I then came across a « little Sound Tracking course » in one of my PC Team magazines where we explored in detail how Thomas Petersen, known under the pseudonym Laxity, builds jazzy tracks there. I then tried to reproduce the lines of codes displayed in the magazine to understand how to position my fingers on my own synth and play jazzy chords … the sequences then giving this title that I dreamed of playing in our group Virtual Music.

Alongside these magical chords, there is this completely crazy bass playing … it is more than likely that the influence of Alain Rinallo who accompanied us then had given me to build a game rounder than habit. Finally I was inspired by the Fusion rhythm of my Roland E68 Synth.

568. Bilou’s Theme

P.P.P. Team (Pierrick Hansen-Pierre Martin-Sylvain / Capcom) Impulse Tracker II – Cyrix 166 – IT

History remains many themes were written for our project Bilou. I had recently wrote a jazzy one during my brother working on the Quick Basic version and there was also the first one he wrote at early start of the project, recorded in live out of my Yamaha synth and digitalized in .VOC format in the game.

Finally there was another energic theme proposed by Pierrick. That was that one i tryed that to recode in a Chiptunes way.

And history let us know that theme we thought to be original was in fact mainly inspirated by the Dr Willy’s Castle theme from Megaman II on the Nintendo NES.

547. Saoul Raoul

Cyborg Jeff (Pierre Martin) Impulse Tracker II – Cyrix 166 – S3M

Well this is just a jazzy soundtracker song mainly inspirated by the samples of the demoscene title : Killing Party from Chrylian & Thug (2nd at Saturne Party, 1996). The original track was constructed with lot of cutted loop sequences, that means my Saoul Raoul was not really original at all. Personnaly i prefer my melody as if the song was not so ambitious…

546. Bilou’s Adventure : Menu theme

Cyborg Jeff (Pierre Martin) Impulse Tracker II – Cyrix 166 – S3M

Since long months, my brother Pype still works on the video game project Bilou’s Adventure. As if some little games from our P.P.P. Team has been released with Assembler, this one was programmed on Quick Basic. By my side, i decided to work now songs for the game, still limited with S3M 6 tracks format. This jazzy loop song was written for the screen menu and for sure had some similitude with the OST of the great MS-DOS game Jazz Jack Rabbit (Epic Mega Games, 1994).

398. Mountain of lemmons

Cyborg Jeff (Martin) Impulse Tracker II – Pentium 120 – S3M

At that time i spent a lot of time with my friend Tbob, especially cause he would like to quickly progress creating soundtracking music. So we often play to create songs using a definited samples out of another amiga module… So here i wrote a jazzy song, limited by the 6 tracks possibility of the Assembler S3M Player coded by my brother Pype.
