664. CJ’s Quest : Mind Conquest

Cyborg Jeff (Pierre Martin) Impulse Tracker II – Cyrix 166 – IT
Track , Soft Xmas. (1998) – Track 13, Cyborgelis (1998-2018)

CJ's Quest - by Pype
CJ’s Quest – by Pype

Il me fallait donc réagir.

Tbob> Tu l'as dis...

Pype> He les gars... Regardez! Derriere vous...

tous> AAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAaAAAAAaaaaAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaahHHHHHHH!!

Cjeff> Glups.. Et nous.

Pype> 200 chacun.

DRAGON ROUGE> GRRRRR. BoutFeu niveau 15.

Tbob> Vite ! Tous derriere mon bouclier magique... Zut! il a fondu

DRAGON ROUGE> NiaaRk niAArK nIaaRk

Cjeff> Tant pis. A MOI L'EPEE DE CRISTAL DU POLE NORD
Tbob> ESPRIT DU YETI GEANT, JE T'APPELLE

Pype> ASTRO FLASHEUR A DOUBLE PERFORATION EN VRILLE

Dragon rouge> AAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaarghhhhhhh.

 DRAGON ROUGE SE FAIT ROSSER

Pype> Ouais.

Tbob> Vite EAU DE VIE NIVEAU 3

Tous> Aaah. Ca fait du bien

Cjeff> Attention, il prepare une attaque mortelle...

DRAGON ROUGE> LAVE NIVEAU 10... BOULE DE FEU NIVEAU 5 ... TORCHE

Tous> TAAAAAYAUUUUUUUUULT

Cjeff> Ca y est les gars... On l'a eu ...

Tbob> Pype ?? Pype Ca va ?? He Cjeff, Pype c'est fait avoir

Pype> Ne... Ne vous en faites pas pour ... moi
Sau vez Mind... je ...

Cjeff> PYPE NOON. Tbob tu peux rien faire

Tbob> Desole Cj. Ma magie est trop basse

PyPe> Bo n ch . . .

 PYPE VOIT LA MORT

Historically, CJ’s Quest saw the light of day long after the release of the Eyes Dreams album in December and will find a surprising place in the « XMAS » album that my close friends will then find at the foot of the tree.

At the end of the year, my dear friend Tbob had the idea of launching an internal music competition in our group Creative Sound Studio. I was not really inspired at first by the sound bank imposed, then after having a little facelift I was more than astonished by what my brother Pype had already composed. So I had to react. It was then already a little better, and I wondered if the friend Tog, despite these poor results of pious schoolboy not pleutre who wields the pen like the most placid joke would also have the opportunity to share with us his music-loving ideas.

Moving on from CJ-Land (yes, that’s a bit Super Mario Land, you guessed it), we slipped to CJ’s Quest which was obviously a nod to the Mystic Quest game that I had played a lot in the past on Gameboy. What had not failed to inspire the brother …

620. Virtual Jam Session

Cyborg Jeff (Martin) Impulse Tracker II – Cyrix 166 – IT
Track 13, Last Trip on my Ship (1999)
Track 7, Cyborgelis (1998-2018)

A few days later, Virtual Jam Session should have found its place in the Eyes Dreams album, since it was finalized while the album was being rendered.

With Virtual Jam Session, I approached another genre much more jazzy, a tall order. I remember that at the time I was with my friend Vivien at the Liège Jazz Festival and that we used to hang out on Friday evenings at the Piano Bar La Notte in the Carré de Liège. These outings offered me to hear other sounds, another way of approaching music and I liked to see pianists lose their fingers on the keys of their piano.

Chance, I then came across a « little Sound Tracking course » in one of my PC Team magazines where we explored in detail how Thomas Petersen, known under the pseudonym Laxity, builds jazzy tracks there. I then tried to reproduce the lines of codes displayed in the magazine to understand how to position my fingers on my own synth and play jazzy chords … the sequences then giving this title that I dreamed of playing in our group Virtual Music.

Alongside these magical chords, there is this completely crazy bass playing … it is more than likely that the influence of Alain Rinallo who accompanied us then had given me to build a game rounder than habit. Finally I was inspired by the Fusion rhythm of my Roland E68 Synth.

Often I would listen to my brother playing classical guitar in a duet. He did concerts with his music theory class. Some songs were complex, others were not … And I really wanted to compose a guitar duet that he could play in concert … And then, Anne and Julie gave me inspiration … alone worries, I do not know how to play the guitar … If that doesn’t matter, my Roland E68 has a series of nylon guitar shades that should do the trick …

The summer holidays are over. I still have no idea what to do in September, but what is certain is that the music will still have plenty of room. If I gradually find my voice, I’m still looking for a singer to write a song for the show Pour La Gloire.

During the Troupe de l’îlot camp, I met Anne and Julie who both love to sing and I thought it would be a good idea to offer them a little studio recording. So I started writing slow-typed music, no longer with the sounds of my Roland synth, but with the slightly more vintage sounds of the synth of Thierry Dubois’ brother, the guitarist of our music group.

The Anne et Lumière project will therefore go no further than an instrumental soundtrack for the Eyes Dreams album, despite the almost 50 tracks and stereo effects integrated into this brave Impulse Tracker. If at least I would never have the opportunity to see Anne again to move forward on this project, the story with « Lumière » will be a little different.

Cut off his head!

And although it does not matter, in spite of a head less, this dear Cyborg Jeff wanted to offer you more! It was 20 years ago, I was coming out of a thiroid ablation under hypnosis … no that can’t be invented! Cyborg Jeff, his head was cut off was telling my friend Valentin’s little Worms.

Overflowing with enthusiasm to discover the compositions of Benoit ‘MAF’ Charcosset in my PC TEAM magazine, I started to compose my « CJ-Land » by exploiting the musical codes specific to the French Soundtracker. « Play at CJ Land » will then see the light of day, a completely crazy title which will even be for several years the soundtrack of the Seresian Gymnastics Club « La Salamandre » and which will even make its return in the soundtrack of the game Crazy Brix in 1999. .

With its management of bliss and complex tempo in Impulse Tracker, the job of remastering this title will not have been easy !

578. Océanne 3D

Cyborg Jeff (Pierre Martin) Impulse Tracker II – Cyrix 166 – IT
Track 17, Eyes Dreams S.E. (1998) – Track 1, Cyborgelis (1998-2018)

00-05 Medieval Introduction
06-20 Off shore
21-26 Ocean's Dreams
27-35 Deep Caves
36-40 Ocean Silents
41-53 Coconut Beach
54-66 Back to the Sea

Months have passed till I’ve written Esperenza Theme. That song have found a special audience different that my usual electro creations. I heard in myself the envy to tell stories with the same way, with notes and instruments. My first year of learning Sounds in Louvain-La-Neuve was near to be finished. I saw less people and took more time to search inside my PC FUN and PC TEAM CDs to discover the Demoscene’s world.

Those Demos are like short numeric movies, played in 3D real time and most of the time linked to a great audio part written with the same music engine than the one I used. So, I had in mind to create my own team, working on such project and… then was born the project of Océanne 3D that should have been included in a 3D visual narration in real time.

Océanne 3D is cutted in 7 scenes a big deal for that time and all those parts was written around the new samples made out of my Roland E68 but also using some ocean ambient I’ve made out of Reiki Music CD that my sister often listen before to sleep.

Finally, the song received lot of congrats from the original fans and especially my parents for who it’s probably the favorite CJ’s song.

I remember that I had in mind during that period to write a song on all the four elements. Fire and Océanne 3D should have been the first one and I should have to work on air and earth… but I finally choose to add those two first song to the « Cyborgelis » part of Eyes Dreams in September 1998.

« Are you ready for techno ? »

I go around in circles in my cabin while looking for inspiration rather than immersing myself in my electronics and acoustics lessons … It’s been ten days that nothing very interesting comes to mind and that I experiment with other styles.

However, what pleases me is this kind of Dance-Trance, it is the sounds à la DJ Sash … And it’s been more than a month that stuck on this « Work » which will inherit the n ° 14 and d ‘a title frankly not very inspired … « Are you ready for techno? »

I had however succeeded by dint of triturating several instruments to approach this pizzi with Sash sauce, but if my gimmick looks too much like « Again ».

The rest, without being naughty, are not. We will therefore not be surprised not to see this song appear on the next album: Eyes Dreams which will be released at the end of the summer … But perhaps the best fans of Cyborg Jeff will feel the basics of what will be « Speed-Di » or « Message for a KLR’s cloud »?

In the absence of a great module, you will be entitled to great greetings!

571. U wanna dance (CJ’s Homin’ mix)

Cyborg Jeff (Pierre Martin) Impulse Tracker II – Cyrix 166 – IT
Track 1, Eyes Dreams S.E. (1998) – Track 16, We Want More (2006)

Toon : « Ah ben, on pourra s’écrire des messages ! »

Poutrelle : « Ah, ça c’est suur hein ! »

Hunter :  » -_-‘  »

Boosted by my new Dance music song « U Wanna dance » written two days before, i would make a remix for a Single CD project. I was starting to work on my usual « CJ’s Homin’ Mix » that was settle on bass line using a mellow organ. Result are realy intersting for a B Face remix.

Later when my friend Tbob and I were preparing the forcoming Eyes Dreams album released we decided to mix the both version in a « CJ & Tbob Homing Mix » with that new line bass. That’s the version you can fin today in the original and second edition of Eyes Dreams available on Jamendo and Spotify.

For the fun story, i share in that module for the first time my email adress i’ve just create in a cyber-space of Louvain-La-Neuve : pietm@hotmail.com.

Question is, what could i’ll do now with an email adress ?

Track 1, Eyes Dreams S.E. (1998) – Track 16, We Want More (2006)

New Beat belge Confetti’s : Pump ‘m up your hands.

Refrain :

U wanna sing
and u wanna dance
give me strange feeling
make my soul in trance

Couplet :

Dance the night
Dance the night away
Feel the vibe
I’m your best Deejay

Gimmick :

If u clap your hands
I’ll give you dance
U could make some noise
U know that I enjoy !

Till that new year 1998, i had the opportunities to grow up sound quality from my new creations with new sounds sure but also with some hardware optimization as for instance using a computer with 16mo of memory !

Anyway, i’ve also bought a Tascam Porta Sutdio II that let me do better vocal arrangements in my new songs. I was able to use a K7 tape as a 4 tracks mono recorder that let me add 3 different singing parts synchronized with the instrumental song. Then i was able to digitalise and import it in Impulse Tracker II.

Anyway, except with the project Let me see the sky in the end of year 1997, no other project was ready for that, also « Encore une chance » that I imagine finished with my friend Tbob. I’m not sure of the reasons, but it was possible that i should wait a long time before the Tascam was delivered.

So it took 4 month before Cyborg Jeff proposed a new Euro-dance vocal song that let you show this technological advancement, also including stereo as my new sound card was now able to manage Stereo with 44khz audio output !

Especially written for my friends : Carine, Tbob, Tog, KLR, Pype and Pierrick, the lyrics was probably basics as they should fit inside the memory of the computer. I remember i’d like to be close to 2 Unlimited style and also have something in the mood of the last New Beat tune from Confetti’s : Put’m up.

Next time i’ll tell you the story of the « album » version rethinked with my friend Tbob…

Well, still learning hard that the IAD in Louvain-La-Neuve. We have lot of exercices to do in team. That day, Didier, Cédric and I were in the C.A.V. to work on a fostex digital recorder. Using a old Serious Beat compilation and an excellent microphone, Cédric Otte start to scream : « I gonna live my life with you ». Vocals were fixed on a tape by Didier and i’ll go back to our kot with an incredible stuffs to make a tube !

Music, probably inspirated by the one we use on the studio was composed with Impulse Tracker and a lot samples from my Roland E68 and tiny touch of Sash !

This trance song will then received a fun arrangement presented as if his crazy author was invited on Radio Gabriel and don’t wanna stop the music ! This is the concept of DJ CO² !
